Next Foot Forward is a place for practical perspective shaped by real life, not theory.
We’re a husband-and-wife team who have lived through a wide range of life transitions—marriage and divorce, second relationships, raising kids, building careers, losing jobs, buying and selling homes, managing money under pressure, navigating health challenges, and caring for aging parents. None of it followed a clean script, and much of it was harder than we expected.
This site grew out of years of conversations with friends and family who found themselves stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure what came next. They weren’t looking for perfect answers. They wanted to understand what the road ahead might actually look like—and what mistakes might be avoidable.
That’s what Next Foot Forward is about.
We don’t claim to have universal solutions. Everyone’s circumstances are different. What we offer instead is shared experience: what surprised us, what didn’t work, what created unnecessary friction, and what helped us regain our footing when things felt uncertain.
Our focus is on the process, not prescriptions. On the practical realities that often get glossed over. On the questions people don’t realize they should be asking until they’re already in the middle of a transition.
In addition to the writing on this site, Next Foot Forward is also home to the books we’ve published. Each one grew out of a specific real-world challenge and is designed to reduce confusion, organize information, and make difficult situations a little more manageable. Where helpful, we provide online resources to support those books.
Life rarely offers a clear roadmap. But understanding the terrain can make the next step feel possible.
That’s what we aim to provide here.
