Build Videos

The book references a number of videos to describe various techniques for using tools as well as demonstrations of the various build steps. Those videos are linked below.

Using a Circular Saw

This short video covers two methods for making accurate cuts with a circular saw.

The first method uses a guide board and two clamps. It is accurate but does take time to setup.

The second method uses a speed square. Setup is faster but there is the potential to make a mistake if you do not hold the speed square firmly.

Using a Sliding Miter Saw

This short video covers two methods for making accurate cuts with a sliding miter saw.

The first method uses the miter saw “Cut Line Indicator” which is usually a laser or LED light that is projected on the board.

The second method requires that the saw be setup with stop blocks. This method is best when repetitive cuts are needed.

Ripping Boards

This video demonstrates two methods for ripping boards.

The first method uses a circular saw with a guide. It is important that the work be clamped to a stable surface.

The second method uses a table saw. This is the preferred method, if you have a table saw available.

Making Angled Cuts to the Sides

This video demonstrates two methods for making angled cuts on the Side boards.

The first method uses a circular saw with a guide. Start by setting up the guide then set the saw angle. Then setup a guide and make the cut.

The second method uses a sliding miter saw. This is the preferred method, if you have a miter saw available.

Cutting the Door Opening

This video demonstrates two methods to make the the wood duck house openings.

The first method demonstrates drawing the opening, using a drill to make a starter hole and then completing the opening with a jig saw.

The second method use a hole saw. It is faster to setup and complete.
